Rug is a piece of thick fabric, often with a nap or pile used as a floor covering. According to Merriam-Webster, a rug differs from carpet in that it is movable, while a carpet is a heavier often tufted fabric that covers a larger area.
For the purposes of this article, we will be referring to handmade or Oriental rugs as opposed to machine made rugs. We are also referring to a rug that is woven with wool yarn, rather than cotton or synthetic fibers. The majority of our rugs are hand-woven and sourced from around the world.
During the manufacturing process, our rugs are carefully inspected by expert craftspeople for quality and consistency. However, it can occasionally happen that a quality aspect escaped the attention of the production workers. Slight deviations in color are therefore permitted and do not qualify for compensation, unless the occurrence can be attributed to a fault of production or material.
To make a rug, you will need certain weaving materials such as wool, twine or strips of fabric that have been dyed. You will also need a rug-making tool such as a crochet hook or a tufting needle or frame. In addition, you may want a stencil or template to mark where the different colored fibers will go. It is important to practice your method of rug making before beginning the actual project. This will help ensure that you have the correct technique for your chosen style of rug.
