The Benefits of Rugs

Rugs add a soft luxurious touch underfoot, but they’re so much more than that. They help define areas of the room, connect colours, and they can even reduce noise in a space.

Rugs come in virtually every colour, design, material and shape one could imagine – they make the perfect bold statement or serve to accent or unify a room’s colour scheme. They can be moved and swapped out easily, and they’re a great way to bring a little bit of comfort into your home.

Carpet and rugs are softer and warmer underfoot than concrete or hardwood floors, offering excellent insulation. This can significantly decrease your heating bills in winter and keep your house cooler in summer. Rugs also trap dust, dirt and allergens and, if accompanied by a rug pad, they can prevent friction between furniture legs and the floor, protecting your carpeting and keeping it cleaner longer.

Many people intuitively feel that rugs help a space feel grounded, especially if they subscribe to feng shui or similar beliefs. This may have to do with the fact that a rug slows down energy flow, which is a good thing in living spaces.

A rug can also help children and pets feel safe on slippery floors. Plus, they can be a great safety feature for babies as they practice their walking skills. They’re also a practical feature in entryways, greeting guests and making them feel at home. And, they can provide a place to wipe shoes and prevent tracking in dirt and debris that would otherwise make its way to the carpeting and hard-surface flooring.
