A rug is a partially floor-covering made of knotted, stitched or woven textile materials. It may be either natural (such as wool) or synthetic. A rug can be a large area rug, a runner or even a fitted carpet that runs wall-to-wall. It can also be a mat, wall hanging or blanket.

A rugs can have many benefits, ranging from softening the look of a room to creating a focal point and adding warmth underfoot. They also offer a sound-dampening effect, which can be a plus for families with young children and pets, or people who like to work from home.

The term “rug” is often used interchangeably with the word carpet, although a rug covers only a small area while a carpet is a full-floor covering. The difference is that a rug is handcrafted and a carpet is mass-produced.
